In this case, a heart usually does not stop completely, but the heartventricles are stimulated very quickly and chaotically, so that they no longer contract. This is called ventricular fibrillation. An AED is then needed to reset the heart and allow it to beat normally again. That is why it is highly advisable to have an AED ready at all times, to offer first aid in professional and private environments.
